Religious Education

The Religious Education Program at St. Andrew’s Parish provides instruction to elementary children enrolled in public schools. The catechists and staff of the Religious Education Program endeavor to assist the parents in the ongoing faith formation of their children. We carry out these aims by offering weekly classes in religious education for the children.

        Registration & Fees:

              * Takes place in March of the preceding year.

              * Parents must be registered members of St. Andrew's Parish and present an original Baptismal Certificate for

                 all children.

              * Parents pay a registration fee that is non-refundable, of $85.00 for one child, $105.00 for two children, and

                 $125.00 for three or more children.

Sacramental Preparation

Children presently in kindergarten in the public schools should register for the First Grade in the Religious Education program. Two years of instruction are required before the reception of First Holy Communion.

Religious Ed students participate together  in a special program for the preparation of the Sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation. Parents attend periodic meetings, which are intended to help  parents to prepare their children to receive the sacraments.

        Preparation for Sacraments:

             * Attendance in a total Religious Program in Religious Education classes
             * Remote preparation - takes place in Religious Education for at least two full years.
             * Immediate preparation - a period of several months prior to the reception of the Sacrament with participation
                in special activities and assignments designed for the preparation of the Sacrament

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a formation process in which adults begin to experience what it means  to be a Catholic.  It is a process for welcoming adult newcomers (inquirers) into the Roman Catholic Church.

       Inquirers come from a variety of backgrounds:

       * persons not baptized

       * persons baptized in the Roman Catholic Church but not evangelized or

       * completely initiated

       * persons baptized in another Christian church, but in need of further

       * instruction and initiation.

The Sacraments of Initiation, Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist are celebrated at the Easter Vigil.

 For information about registering  for adult classes to become a member of the Catholic Church and to receive the Sacraments of Initiation contact Sr. Joan Krukoski at 201-437-9062, or call St. Andrew’s Rectory, 201-437-0833.
